Information
Malpighia glabra is a tropical fruit-bearing shrub or small tree in the family Malpighiaceae.
Acerola is commonly known for its rich content of vitamin-C but the benefits dont stop there with this wonderful fruit, it is said to be good for the liver, anemia, inflammation, healing wounds, diabetes, astringent, anti-fungal, fever and diarrhea.
Acerola cherry is commonly used in many multi-vitamin supplements.

Acerola was tested along with several other fruits for its antioxident activity and was found to be up their with the best. Apart from its rich content of vitamin C, the fruit also has a high content of polyphenols such as anthocyanin which attribute to its bright red colour. Acerola is also a good source of beta carotene which is comparable to the content found in carrots.
Acerola cherry is a rich stable natural source of vitamin C and has naturally occuring bioflavinoids which aid in the absorbtion. Preffered over camu camu which isnt very stable as a supplement only fresh or dried and consumed immediatley.
Although their isnt much research available on the effects of acerola it is said to be effective in treating inflammatory conditions most likely down to its vitamin c content and other antioxidents.
Side Effects/Precautions
Acerola has no known serious side effects only some minor side effects such as nausea, stomach cramps and insomnia have been reported. These side effects are generally only seen in higher doses.
