Amla is known to be the richest natural source of vitamin C and is easily assimilated by body. This fruit is used as the main ingredient in the ayurvedic tonic Chyavanprash. It is also used along with several other herbs in other ayurvedic tonics such as triphala.

Amla shampoos and hair oil are traditionally believed to nourish the hair and scalp and prevent premature grey hair.
